| Description: INV # 1056 Schwartz was something of a child prodigy. His earliest teachers, John Sloan and Charles Hawthorne, were leaders of the uniquely American Ash Can School. Schwartz exhibited with Hopper, Vlaminck, and Wyeth. He attended the Cape Cod School of Art and the National Academy of Design, and was a member of the Art Students League of New York. His work is included in major American museum collections such as the Brooklyn Museum, Carnegie Institute, Corcoran Gallery Biennial, and New York's Metropolitan Museum and Museum of Modern Art. He has also been the subject of two retrospective one-man exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. |
